The visit by Teck Resources executives to Mendoza adds the province to the Canadian company's growing footprint in Argentina. While advancing exploration at the La Coipita Project in San Juan, the company met with provincial authorities to gain a better understanding of a jurisdiction that has reactivated metallic mineral exploration in recent years.

Governor Alfredo Cornejo welcomed the delegation alongside Jimena Latorre, Minister of Energy and Environment, and Jerónimo Shantal, Director of Mining. Representing Teck were Andrés Castillo, Exploration Manager; Giovanna Beratto, Government Relations Manager; and legal representatives Gastón Vargas and Jorge Vargas. The delegation brought together both institutional representatives and members of the company's technical team responsible for evaluating new exploration opportunities.
Discussions focused on the province's geological potential, investment opportunities, the mining project approval process—including the participation of the Provincial Legislature as required under Mendoza's regulatory framework—and issues related to electric power infrastructure and energy integration with Chile. The meeting built on discussions initiated during PDAC 2026 in Toronto and later continued at CESCO Week in Santiago, Chile.
A Journey That Began in San Juan
Teck's visit to Mendoza comes as the company continues to expand its activities in Argentina. In 2024, Teck signed an agreement with AbraSilver to enter the La Coipita Project in San Juan through an earn-in agreement, allowing it to acquire up to an 80% interest by funding exploration programs and meeting previously agreed investment commitments.
Since then, the company has led the project's exploration campaigns, which are focused on evaluating a copper-gold-molybdenum porphyry system located in the Andean region of San Juan. Results from the most recent drilling campaigns have reinforced confidence in the area's geological potential and strengthened Teck's presence within Argentina's exploration sector.
Against this backdrop, the company's visit to Mendoza represents an expansion of its assessment to another province within the same Andean metallogenic belt.
From a Single Project to a Broader Jurisdiction
According to information released by the provincial government, the company sought to gain a better understanding of Mendoza's regulatory framework, environmental permitting process, available infrastructure and geological potential. No specific projects were announced, nor were any particular exploration areas identified.
The presence of the company's Exploration Manager within the delegation indicates that the visit extended beyond institutional engagement and also involved the technical team responsible for evaluating new exploration opportunities. Nevertheless, the visit was not accompanied by investment announcements or decisions regarding future projects.
A Province Returning to the Radar of Major Mining Companies
The reactivation of metallic mineral exploration, the expansion of Mendoza's copper project pipeline, and the province's international outreach efforts in recent years have once again positioned Mendoza on the radar of globally active mining companies.
Within this context, Teck's visit represents an initial stage in evaluating the province. The company already operates an exploration project in San Juan and has now added Mendoza to its assessment of the opportunities offered by the Argentine side of the Andean Copper Belt.
