In Adelaide, Australia, the Governor of San Juan, Marcelo Orrego—accompanied by the Minister of Mining, Juan Pablo Perea, and the Minister of Production, Labor and Innovation, Gustavo Fernández—met with Jeremy Milne, Head of Corporate Affairs, and Tom Carrick-Smith, Principal Government Relations, representing Copper South Australia from BHP, as well as with José Morea, Country Director of Vicuña Corp.

The meeting served as an opportunity to exchange experiences, models, and best practices in how the company engages with the government of South Australia, Australia’s leading copper-producing state.

Topics discussed included agreement models for the development of shared infrastructure for energy, water, logistics, and transport, as well as approaches to strategies aimed at fostering local value through employment and supplier development.

Vicuña Corp. is a joint venture between BHP and Lundin Mining, made up of the Josemaría and Filo del Sol deposits.

Governor Orrego is seeking to learn from successful experiences developed in Australia that could be implemented in San Juan to enhance the positive impact of copper mining in the province.

The meeting also served to reaffirm the importance that the Government of San Juan places on the sustainable development of mining, based on job creation and local suppliers, while maximizing added value.
