The meeting brought together a delegation of Argentine governors along with the Minister of Economy of the Nation, Luis Caputo, within an agenda aimed at strengthening ties with the international private sector and promoting new investments in the country.

During the panel, Orrego highlighted the weight of mining in San Juan’s economy and its strategic role in the Argentine mining landscape. According to him, the activity represents more than 80% of the province’s exports, although he emphasized that San Juan maintains a diversified productive matrix.

In particular, the governor focused on copper development, a mineral considered key for the global energy transition. In this regard, he noted that “of the 10 copper mines that exist in Argentina, six are located in the province of San Juan,” while also stressing that the territory concentrates 74% of the country’s copper exploration.

Orrego also linked this potential with the development of clean energy, highlighting the province’s position in renewable generation. “We are the leading producer of renewable energy in Argentina. More than 50% of the solar panels are installed in the province of San Juan,” he stated, mentioning solar radiation conditions that exceed 300 days per year.

In his presentation, the governor also referred to the investment climate and the regulatory framework currently in force in Argentina, highlighting the role of the Incentive Regime for Large Investments (RIGI) and the importance of fiscal stability for the development of large-scale projects.

“Trust is built by the gram and lost by the kilo. And what Argentina is generating toward the world is trust,” the governor said when referring to the relationship with international investors.

The panel was part of a federal agenda that also included the participation of governors Raúl Jalil (Catamarca), Carlos Sadir (Jujuy), Gustavo Sáenz (Salta), Claudio Vidal (Santa Cruz), Rolando Figueroa (Neuquén), Alberto Weretilneck (Río Negro), Alfredo Cornejo (Mendoza), Ignacio Torres (Chubut), and Juan Pablo Valdés (Corrientes), who presented the productive opportunities of their respective provinces.

Institutional agenda in the United States

The meeting was led by Susan Segal, president and chief executive officer of the Council of the Americas, an organization founded by David Rockefeller in 1963 that promotes free trade and the development of open markets across the continent.

The official mission in New York will extend until March 12 and includes various activities linked to the promotion of investments, with the participation of national authorities, including President Javier Milei.

Following the presentation at the Council of the Americas, the agenda of the Argentine delegation continued with an institutional reception at the Argentine Consulate in New York.
