The Governor of San Juan, Marcelo Orrego, has begun his participation in the “Copper to the World 2025” Conference and Exhibition, taking place this week in Adelaide, Australia—the capital of South Australia, the country's leading copper-producing state. Prior to his presentation at the event, Orrego engaged in a series of activities, including meetings with government officials and key industry representatives.

Governor Orrego traveled to Australia to attend one of the world’s most important conferences on copper. He took part in the opening session, which was led by South Australia's Minister for Energy and Mining, Tom Koutsantonis.

This year’s edition of the conference focuses on showcasing the advantages of copper in driving the future and enabling technological change. During the opening session, various authorities and industry figures highlighted recent developments from Argentina and emphasized the significance of Governor Orrego’s presence at the event.

A noteworthy aspect of this year’s conference—and one that underscores the importance of Orrego's previously confirmed attendance—is the prominent participation of executives from world-class copper projects based in San Juan. Among them is the Vicuña Project, a joint venture between Lundin and BHP.

The event also featured a panel of South American ambassadors, with a notable contribution from Argentina’s Ambassador to Australia, Máximo Gowland, who placed special emphasis on San Juan’s copper potential.

Governor Orrego’s mission and presence in Australia aim to reinforce the growing global interest in the mining opportunities offered by San Juan, particularly in the copper sector. He is expected to hold meetings with top mining executives and representatives from regional and international business chambers.

The governor’s agenda will focus on San Juan’s opportunities not only in mining but also in renewable energy. However, special emphasis will be placed on encouraging the international mining community to invest in the development of local employment and suppliers—an essential component for advancing toward a sustainable mining model. This point is of particular importance to Orrego and is especially relevant at a conference heavily attended by METS companies (Mining Equipment, Technology, and Services).

Governor Orrego is accompanied on this mission by San Juan’s Minister of Mining, Juan Pablo Perea, and the Minister of Production, Labor, and Innovation, Gustavo Fernández.

Over two days, Salta once again showed why the chessboard can speak the language of mining. The 4th Mining Chess Circuit brought together companies, government, communities, students, suppliers, and players of all levels in a space where sport—far from being an accessory—became a genuine bridge connecting mining, education, and territorial development. The event was organized by CAPMIN – the Argentine Chamber of Mining Suppliers, the Secretariat of Mining and Energy of Salta, Salta Deportes, and CAPROSEMITP.
