Flavia Royón has taken over as Chair of the Senate Committee on Mining, Energy and Fuels at a particularly active time for Argentina’s mining industry. The advancement of major copper and lithium projects, implementation of the Large Investment Incentive Regime (RIGI), and challenges related to infrastructure, competitiveness and supplier development are all part of an increasingly relevant agenda.
In recent statements, the senator from Salta highlighted the potential of Argentina’s mining industry to significantly increase its exports. At the same time, she pointed to the need to advance infrastructure and create conditions for investments to have a greater impact on the economies of the provinces where mining activities are carried out.
The Committee now chaired by Royón will be responsible, among other matters, for considering initiatives related to mining and energy, two sectors closely linked to the development of natural resources and the country’s potential to expand its productive and export capacity.
Her appointment as Chair also brings the experience accumulated through several public-sector positions. Before taking office as National Senator for Salta, Royón served as Secretary of Mining and Energy of Salta Province, Secretary of Energy of Argentina between 2022 and 2023, and subsequently Secretary of Mining of Argentina.
This career path provides her with direct knowledge of two areas that are playing an increasingly prominent role in Argentina’s economic agenda, at a time when the development of new investments poses challenges not only in terms of financing and infrastructure, but also regarding competitiveness, suppliers and value creation within regional economies.
