Provincial authorities held a meeting with representatives from Finland to explore opportunities for cooperation and investment in sectors linked to mining, technological innovation, and productive development.
The meeting was led by Minister of Production and Mining Ignacio Lupión, together with Secretary of Mining Gustavo Carrizo and Coordinator of International Relations Julio San Millán. Representing the Finnish delegation were Juha Karisola, Commercial Counselor of the Embassy of Finland in Argentina, and Ricardo Borla, Honorary Consul of Finland in Salta.
During the meeting, participants analyzed possibilities for joint work in mining, renewable energy, the circular economy, bioeconomy, and sustainable industrial solutions. Finland is globally recognized for its technological development applied to the mining industry, particularly in automation, digitalization, energy efficiency, and equipment for large-scale operations.
Discussions also addressed alternatives to promote investment, incorporate innovation into provincial productive processes, and expand the presence of Salta’s products in international markets.
Global Attention
The visit takes place amid growing international interest in Salta’s geological potential. The province forms part of the so-called Lithium Triangle alongside Catamarca and Jujuy and is also home to some of Argentina’s most significant copper projects.
Data from the first four months of 2026 showed that mining accounted for more than 80% of total exports from these three provinces. Lithium represented 65.5% of regional mining exports in April and set a new historical export record for the period.
Throughout 2026, the province has welcomed numerous diplomatic and business delegations interested in learning about mining development and related investment opportunities. Among them were representatives from the United Kingdom, whose Chamber of Commerce in Argentina organized the “Salta British Day,” focused on financing, infrastructure, and services for the mining industry.
Salta also hosted a Swedish trade mission led by Ambassador Torsten Ericsson, comprising companies involved in technology, energy, mobility, and innovation for the mining sector. The agenda included meetings with provincial authorities aimed at strengthening cooperation in sustainable mining, digitalization, and technological development.
These initiatives add to meetings held with representatives from the United States, Canada, Australia, Japan, China, and other countries with corporate interests in lithium, copper, and advanced exploration projects across the Salta Puna, reflecting the province’s growing position within the global mining investment portfolio.
The meeting with Finland forms part of the provincial strategy to consolidate international partnerships that foster technology transfer, attract investment, and strengthen the development of a mining value chain with greater local participation and export potential.
