In recent days, Dr. Hernán Celorrio — simply Hernán to those of us who knew him — passed away. With his passing, Argentine mining loses a professional closely associated with the development of the sector.

A lawyer and partner at the Brons & Salas law firm, his career as a bridge between the public and private sectors made him a relevant figure in the development of Argentine mining and, particularly, in San Juan.
From his executive role at Barrick Argentina, Celorrio was part of a decisive period for the company, culminating in the start of production at Veladero, an event that marked a turning point in the history of Argentine mining and, especially, that of San Juan. He also played a significant role in advancing the construction of the binational Pascua-Lama project. After his time at Barrick, he remained connected to San Juan’s mining sector through his involvement in the Hualilán project.
One of the leading figures at PANORAMA MINERO’s seminars, Hernán Celorrio was a visionary and a constant advocate of the benefits of mining integration between Argentina and Chile. An outstanding speaker, his presentations and reflections were among the most eagerly anticipated moments of our events.
With a profound knowledge of law, Celorrio combined his professional background and executive career with active participation in mining industry associations. This was complemented by his warm and easygoing personality, which encouraged openness and dialogue.
But beyond the professional, the executive and the mining industry leader, those of us who had the opportunity to know him will remember, above all, Hernán: a great person and a great friend, for his warmth, his approachability, his always generous conversation, and the simple and natural way in which he shared his knowledge and experiences.
