Salta hosted the 46th Ordinary Assembly of the Federal Mining Council (COFEMIN), an event that brought together representatives from all 23 provinces of the country and the National Secretary of Mining, Luis Lucero. The opening was led by Romina Sassarini, Secretary of Mining and Energy, who presided over the assembly.
Based on a recent report from the national mining department, the ratio between imports and exports of mining projects saw a significant increase in April 2024 compared to the same period the previous year.
In April 2024, mineral exports reached a value of $267 million, accumulating a total of $1.134 billion in the first four months of the year. This represents a year-on-year decrease of 9.9% for April and a 13.9% drop for the year-to-date. Additionally, according to estimates from the National Secretariat of Mining, the accumulated total for 2024 is 6.2% below the average recorded between 2010 and 2023 for the same months.

The Emirati company called UMPC (United Mining Projects Corporation) confirmed its entry into Argentina with a US$550 million investment to launch the Río Grande Sur lithium project, located in the northwest of the province of Catamarca. The announcement was confirmed by the company in April and is the result of various trade and business missions that the local government has conducted with representatives from the Gulf nation over the last four years. UMPC is a company focused on lithium and other critical minerals and is entering Argentina through its local subsidiary, Marhen Lithium. The founder and CEO of UMPC, Bradley Pielsticker, said that he expects Río Grande Sur to be "one of the most advanced projects in national lithium production."
Barrick Gold Corporation announced preliminary production for the first quarter of 940 thousand ounces of gold and 40 thousand tons of copper, along with preliminary sales of 910 thousand ounces of gold and 39 thousand tons of copper for all its operating mines. The company expects gold and copper production to increase progressively each quarter throughout the year, with the expansion of the Pueblo Viejo plant in the Dominican Republic increasing from the second quarter and the reactivation of the Porgera mine in Papua New Guinea continuing as planned.
