With a US$400 Million Investment, Genneia Advances a Key Project for Mining Electrification in Salta

Renewable energy company Genneia announced progress in the development of a new electrical interconnection line in Salta Province, with an investment exceeding US$400 million. The initiative aims to improve grid access for mining projects in the region, focusing on the growth of green lithium production and the energy supply for copper developments in the province.

The project is expected to have a capacity of 2.6 million MWh per year, contributing to the energy supply needed for an estimated annual production of 150,000 tons of lithium carbonate. “Providing energy from renewable sources addresses the growing demand for efficient and competitive energy in the mining industry, aligning with international sustainability standards,” the company stated.

Energy Infrastructure: A Critical Factor for Mining in Northwest Argentina

The planned high-voltage interconnection will be a crucial step forward for Salta’s energy infrastructure, enhancing security and reliability in electricity supply for one of the country’s most important mining provinces.

“The development of this project in Salta is a clear example of how public-private cooperation can ensure access to secure and sustainable energy for the mining industry,” said Bernardo Andrews, CEO of Genneia. He also emphasized the company's ability to access international financing under sustainability conditions: “In the past five years, Genneia has secured US$1.2 billion from development banks under the highest environmental and social standards.”

Discussions with Authorities and Next Steps

As part of the project, Genneia and EDESA representatives met with Salta’s Minister of Infrastructure, Sergio Camacho, to analyze the scope of the initiative and define the next steps for its execution. During the meeting, the importance of strengthening Salta’s energy infrastructure was highlighted as a key pillar for the province’s economic and social development.

“With this initiative, Genneia reaffirms its commitment to the country’s energy development and sustainable mining, promoting a more efficient and cleaner energy matrix for mining operations,” the company concluded.
