Vicuña has reached a workforce of 300 operators who are preparing to support the next stages of the integrated project comprising Josemaría and Filo del Sol. Of the total, 97% are from San Juan, 47% belong to communities near the project and 16.3% are women.
The figure was reached following the addition of 24 new workers, as the company advances with early works associated with the development of the project.
One of the main focuses of this stage is the training of future operators. Workers are undergoing a program aimed at developing the technical and safety skills required to operate heavy machinery.
Over the coming weeks, training activities will continue with specialized instructors. The program includes technical knowledge, operating procedures and safety practices related to the tasks they will subsequently perform at the project.
The formation of this group is part of the preparation of the human resources that Vicuña will require for its next stages of development, with a majority participation of workers from San Juan and a significant presence of residents from communities located within the project’s area of influence.
Vicuña Corp. is a joint venture between BHP and Lundin Mining for the development of Josemaría, a copper deposit located in San Juan, and Filo del Sol, a copper, gold and silver deposit located between San Juan Province and Chile’s Atacama Region.
