In this context, the province is moving forward with improvements in weather monitoring infrastructure, logistics information tools and international outreach efforts. Among them was the recent visit of Türkiye's Ambassador to Argentina, Ömür Budak, who met with provincial authorities.
Weather Monitoring at Las Grutas
The Secretariat for Regional Coordination and Integration of Catamarca reported ongoing efforts to improve the operational infrastructure associated with the corridor.
Recently, Secretary Rosana Solohaga met with engineer Luis Schneiter, from the Science and Technology Department of the Ministry of Education and Labor, to coordinate new actions related to the weather station located at Las Grutas, within the San Francisco Pass area.
During the meeting, the parties discussed the incorporation of systems to measure snow accumulation and wind conditions, as well as tools aimed at improving longer-range weather forecasting capabilities.
According to provincial authorities, this information is relevant for corridor operations, particularly for freight transportation to Chile, as well as for tourism and general transit activities.
Logistics Information and Digital Tools
The Secretariat for Regional Coordination, Integration and Logistics is also working on initiatives designed to improve access to information related to the San Francisco Pass.
At a meeting led by Solohaga and Martina Guillou, Provincial Director of Strategic and Operational Coordination for the Pass, discussions focused on technological tools intended to facilitate access to logistics information along the corridor.
The initiatives seek to strengthen institutional communication and improve data availability for transport operators, tourists and regular users of the route.
For the mining industry, access to updated information regarding road conditions, weather and transit times is an important factor in logistical planning.
Türkiye and Interest in Mineral Resources
A few days ago, Türkiye's Ambassador to Argentina, Ömür Budak, visited Catamarca as part of an official institutional agenda.
The meeting was led by Vice Governor Rubén Dusso and focused on opportunities for cooperation and exchange between both parties.
During the discussions, Dusso highlighted aspects of Türkiye's industrial development and pointed to potential areas of common interest related to renewable energy, infrastructure and mining.
One of the topics addressed was the interest shown by Turkish companies in mineral projects across South America, particularly those linked to copper.
For his part, Budak described Türkiye as a potential commercial gateway for products from Catamarca, highlighting the country's logistics capabilities and international connectivity.
When asked about regional infrastructure, the ambassador also emphasized the importance of integration corridors such as the San Francisco Pass, noting that connectivity remains a key factor in economic development.
A Strategic Corridor for Regional Integration
These initiatives form part of the province's strategy to consolidate the San Francisco International Pass as one of the main bioceanic corridors in northwestern Argentina.
The route connects Catamarca with the Chilean port of Coquimbo and is part of broader regional integration efforts promoted by successive provincial administrations to facilitate trade with Pacific markets.
