Finland participated for the first time in Expo San Juan Minera with its own stand, positioning itself as a strategic partner in the supply of technology and specialized services. Companies such as Metso, Nokia, Normet, and Wärtsilä offer innovations in underground mining, secure communications, and energy, designed to guarantee high-quality standards in demanding climatic environments.

This technological arrival seeks to promote sustainable production, particularly in the copper sector, taking advantage of improved legal certainty and changes in Argentina’s regulatory framework.

Finland’s ambassador, Nicola Lindertz, led the way by securing her country’s first official participation with its own stand at Expo San Juan Minera 2026. Following a reconnaissance visit conducted together with representatives of the European Union, the diplomat expressed strong interest in the evolution of the mining sector in the province, particularly regarding copper development projects and new projects such as Hualilán.

The Nordic nation’s main contribution in this context is not focused on direct investment in mining deposits, but rather on its strategic role as a provider of highly complex technology. Finland’s mining ecosystem offers comprehensive solutions ranging from underground mining machinery to secure communication systems and reliable energy supply. Its extensive experience in extreme climatic environments has enabled Finnish companies to develop superior quality standards, which are suitable for the demanding geographical conditions of the Argentine Andes.

Among the companies accompanying this mission were Normet, a specialist in underground infrastructure, and Wärtsilä, focused on efficient energy generation. In addition, Nokia’s presence ensures critical advances in mine connectivity, while Metso positions itself as the flagship company in mineral processing. These innovations are aligned with the pursuit of sustainable production and commitment to environmental regulations, pillars that Finland considers essential for modern mining development.

Regarding Argentina’s future outlook, the Finnish diplomat sees a positive trend driven by transformations in the regulatory framework. The perception of greater legal certainty for foreign companies is a determining factor encouraging service companies to deepen their presence in the local market and collaborate in the expansion of the technological frontier of Argentina’s mining industry.
