Vicuña has begun transporting the first large mining haul trucks to the project camp as part of the early works being carried out to advance its operational preparations.
These are the first Komatsu HD1500 units, with an approximate payload capacity of 142 tonnes per trip, forming part of a new fleet of mining equipment that will be progressively incorporated into the project.
Once they reach their destination, the trucks will undergo several preparation stages, including lifting, assembly and mechanical performance testing, to verify their operation before the start of activities.
In total, the new fleet will comprise 36 major equipment units, including 12 Komatsu HD1500 haul trucks, hydraulic excavators, wheel loaders, bulldozers, motor graders and compactors. According to the company, deliveries will take place progressively until April 2027.
The new equipment will be deployed in upcoming early works activities, including bulk material movement, initial mine stripping, preparation of work areas, and the construction and maintenance of roads and platforms.
Vicuña Corp. is a joint venture between BHP and Lundin Mining, established to develop the Josemaría deposit, an advanced copper project located in San Juan, and Filo del Sol, a copper, gold and silver deposit situated between San Juan Province and the Atacama Region of Chile.
