The Swedish Ambassador to Argentina, Mr. Torsten Ericsson, visited the province of San Juan on Monday, May 5, leading a delegation made up of representatives from the diplomatic corps in Argentina and leading Swedish companies in mining technology and innovation. The objective was to strengthen institutional ties and explore collaboration opportunities in the productive and energy sectors.

The companies represented included ABB, Epiroc, Sandvik, Hitachi Energy, SKF, AFRY, Xylem, Wassara, Hexagon, SNA Europe, and Securion. Juan Prgich, president of the Swedish-Argentine Chamber of Commerce, also participated.

Throughout the day, the delegation held meetings with provincial authorities, including Governor Marcelo Orrego, cabinet ministers, and technical teams. Institutional and business meetings were also held to learn about local initiatives related to mining development.

Torsten Ericsson, Swedish Ambassador to Argentina

• "For obvious reasons, my work as ambassador is based in Buenos Aires, but I am interested in traveling and visiting other provinces and political leaders like the Governor of San Juan."

• "As ambassador, I have been impressed by the dedication in San Juan to developing its economy, particularly its mining sector. We have met with several companies at different stages of their projects: all have spoken about the potential, which is much greater than what has been realized so far."

• "I see great potential, and Swedish companies, with their technology and expertise, can contribute significantly to developing the province’s potential."

• "In international trade between Sweden and Argentina, machinery and vehicles are always important."

• "We are a mining country; we have faced the same environmental and community relations challenges near mining operations. Swedish companies have positioned themselves to be part of the solution to these problems."

• "Swedish companies are already present in San Juan, participating in projects as suppliers. I believe we can conclude that there is great potential for greater presence and cooperation between the Swedish business community and stakeholders in San Juan."

Juan Prgich, President of the Swedish-Argentine Chamber of Commerce

• "The Chamber of Commerce supports the embassy in this type of initiative because it understands that business takes place in the provinces; and the mining business is here in San Juan."

• "It has been a very successful visit; we see a great future for mining, along with the pharmaceutical and wine sectors."

• "Swedish companies maintain the capability and technological quality of their products, regardless of where they are manufactured; the technology is cutting-edge and guided by Swedish principles."

• "Swedish companies have had a presence in Argentina for more than 50 or even 100 years, standing by through both good and bad times."
