This activity is part of the project’s advanced exploration phase, aiming to establish a solid baseline for future development. These studies will be essential in determining the optimal locations for key infrastructure, including camps, warehouses, waste material deposits, tunnels, conveyor belts, and offices, as well as the planning of roads and service corridors.
Following approval from the Ministry of Mining of Catamarca, MARA mobilized its team and machinery to begin work, which is expected to last approximately four months. The permits include authorization for a drilling campaign involving three wells along the potential tunnel trace north of the mineralized area by the Minas River, and seven wells in Campo de Río Blanco.
Environmental Studies and Community Commitments
Ahead of presenting the Environmental Impact Report, MARA is conducting preliminary work to refine its understanding of the deposit. The company operates under the supervision of regulatory authorities, adhering to the Mining Code of Catamarca and following Glencore’s global environmental standards.
MARA remains committed to preserving biodiversity and minimizing environmental impact through responsible and transparent management. This commitment includes careful water resource management and protection of the area’s archaeological heritage, along with the ongoing community program.
Socioeconomic Impact and Local Development
In Catamarca, MARA has over 900 employees across Andalgalá, Belén, Santa María, and other project sites. The company has implemented an active local supplier development program that includes training, business rounds, and advisory sessions to foster the growth of local businesses.
Community Engagement
The Ministry of Mining of Catamarca approved the current exploration campaign after a citizen participation process, which included meetings with neighboring communities and site inspections. These activities involved over 1,000 people, including representatives of indigenous groups and community leaders from Andalgalá, Belén, and Santa María. In 2023, MARA’s Community Participation Program engaged 7,839 residents from these localities, strengthening communication between the company and the community.

This initiative provides direct employment to 162 people, benefiting various communities within the company’s area of influence.
