Impulsa Mendoza launched an open call to participate in a participatory environmental monitoring program focused on water quality in southern Mendoza, centered on the El Seguro project, located in Malargüe Western Mining District I (MDMO).

The initiative aims to incorporate local stakeholders into environmental monitoring through direct sampling and analysis, in a process that combines community participation with technical control over variables that are sensitive to mining development.

El Seguro: Own Asset and Advanced Project within MDMO

El Seguro holds a central position within the district’s framework. It is an asset owned by Impulsa Mendoza, acquired from the Mendoza-based company Agaucu, and defined as one of the reference projects in the first stage of the Malargüe Western Mining District.

Within the initial batch of approved initiatives, it stands as the second most advanced project in terms of on-site progress, making it a relevant case for observing the concrete evolution of the district in its early phase.

In this context, the state company has progressed with the construction of the access road to the area, enabling the logistical conditions required for subsequent exploration stages.

Direct Participation in an Ongoing Project

The monitoring will take place within the project area, allowing participants to take part in the water quality control process under real operational conditions.

The activity includes sample collection and field analysis under defined protocols and with technical support, integrating the community into a concrete instance of environmental monitoring.

Next Steps: Drilling Under Evaluation

With the access road already completed, the next planned step at El Seguro is to move forward with a drilling campaign. However, operational timelines place this objective beyond the current calendar, with drilling expected for the 2026–2027 campaign.

This advancement represents a change in scale in both technical and financial terms, given the costs associated with advanced exploration. At this stage, the decisions made by Impulsa Mendoza regarding how and when to proceed will serve as an indicator of the district’s development pace.

Schedule and Conditions of the Call

The registration process is carried out through an online form and has limited slots, subject to a subsequent selection process.

The program includes a mandatory prior training session and a full day of fieldwork.

The planned schedule is as follows:

• Pre-registration deadline: April 5

• Mandatory training (virtual): April 13

• Participant confirmation: April 14

• Field monitoring: April 16

The organizers indicated that completing the pre-registration and attending the training does not guarantee participation, as final selection will depend on availability.

The activity will take place in the project area and requires availability for a full day in the field. Logistical costs will be covered by the company, and selected participants will receive detailed information regarding operational, safety, and organizational aspects.

Openness, Training, and Community Engagement

The call is part of a broader strategy to increase openness in Mendoza’s mining sector, alongside initiatives focused on training and access to technical information.

In this direction, the Provincial Directorate of Mining launched the “Mining Open Doors” program, aimed at high school and university students, with the goal of bringing them closer to the sector’s operations, processes, and controls through practical experiences.

These visits include guided tours covering processes such as flotation, leaching, and mineral separation, as well as the role of mining in the energy transition, within a structured educational framework supported by technical guidance.

Together, these initiatives reflect a strategy aimed at expanding the social traceability of mining activity, incorporating direct participation instances—such as field monitoring—and educational spaces that help understand the sector’s technical functioning.
