Safety, risk management and the incorporation of new technologies applied to prevention are among the main topics at Safe Mining 2026, the 4th International Conference on Safety and Occupational Health in Mining, being held from September 1 to 3 in Santiago, Chile.
Organized by Gecamin, the event brings together professionals, executives and specialists from the mining industry to analyze the main challenges related to safety and occupational health. The conference features more than 90 technical presentations, with authors from eight countries and more than 40 papers coming directly from mining operations.
Safe Mining 2026 is chaired by Benjamín Martinich, Vice President of Safety, Occupational Health and Environment at Anglo American Chile.
The program addresses topics related to collision prevention and interaction with mobile equipment, critical control management, contractor safety, fatigue and fitness for work, ergonomics, human factors, mental health and emergency response.
One of the highlights of this edition is the growing incorporation of technological tools into preventive management. Artificial intelligence has a dedicated space within the program, with experiences related to data analytics, control automation and the early detection of risk conditions.
The agenda takes on particular relevance given the technological transformation underway in the mining industry and the growth of larger and more complex operations. In this context, critical risk management, interaction between people and equipment, and contractor safety are emerging as key challenges for companies and suppliers.
The 2026 edition follows Safe Mining 2024, which brought together 344 participants and 78 presentations, consolidating the conference as a regional forum for the exchange of experiences and best practices in mining safety.
