EXAR, the leading lithium carbonate producer in Argentina, announced an investment of over US$40 million for the installation of a prototype direct lithium extraction (DLE) plant, which will allow it to maximize the efficiency of its production at its Cauchari-Olaroz plant (Jujuy province).

The announcement, made at the Prospectors & Developers Association of Canada (PDAC) Conference in Toronto, was presented by the Governor of Jujuy, Carlos Sadir, accompanied by Simón Pérez Alsina, President of EXAR and Vice President of Ganfeng Lithium Argentina S.A. and Litio Minera Argentina S.A.; Jason Luo, CEO of Ganfeng Lithium for Latin America; Sam Pigott, CEO of Lithium Argentina; and Exequiel Lello, President of Jujuy Energía y Minería Sociedad del Estado (JEMSE) representing EXAR’s shareholders. Also present was José Gómez, Secretary of Mining and Hydrocarbons of Jujuy, along with other national and provincial authorities from the sector and business leaders.

Innovation allows us to advance towards more efficient and sustainable production, and with the implementation of direct extraction, we optimize resource use. Furthermore, this investment, which has the potential for expansion, will create even more job opportunities for the province of Jujuy. Without a doubt, the support of the provincial government and the policies of the national government encourage us to continue strengthening lithium production in the country and boost regional and national development

said Pérez Alsina, President of EXAR.

In the first phase, this plant will have a production capacity of 5,000 tons per year of lithium carbonate, using direct extraction technology. This transition will allow for more efficient use of brine, reduce industrial water consumption, and lower energy demand, thus optimizing the sustainability of the operation.

In this way, EXAR reaffirms its commitment to sustainable operations through an investment that not only strengthens production but also reflects collaborative work with local communities, ensuring inclusive growth that respects the environment.

About EXAR: It is an Argentine company formed by Ganfeng Lithium, Lithium Argentina, and Jujuy Energía y Minería Sociedad del Estado (JEMSE), dedicated to the development and production of lithium carbonate at the Cauchari-Olaroz Salt Flat, where the “Cauchari-Olaroz Plant” is located in the province of Jujuy.

The company became the leading producer of lithium carbonate in 2024, surpassing 25,000 tons produced. By 2025, it expects to produce between 30,000 and 35,000 tons. Additionally, EXAR generates more than 2,100 jobs, both direct and indirect.
