Following his participation in Panorama Minero’s Lithium in South America Seminar, Catamarca Governor Raúl Jalil began a visit to Australia, where he presented the province’s mining potential to prospective investors. In this context, Catamarca promoted its mining investment opportunities as part of a working agenda that began in Brisbane. The Catamarca delegation’s meetings focused on strengthening bilateral relations, promoting new projects and advancing training initiatives related to the industry.

During the first day, Jalil was accompanied by Argentina’s Ambassador to Australia, Máximo Gowland, and met with Members of Parliament Jon Krause and Joe Kelly, Co-Chairs of the Parliamentary Friendship Group with Latin America, at the Queensland Parliament. There, the Governor outlined the current state of Catamarca’s mining industry and the investment opportunities offered by the province, particularly in copper and lithium.

The agenda also included meetings with representatives of the University of Queensland’s Sustainable Minerals Institute, which provides advisory services for the development of mining projects in Latin America, and with BHP executives Dinesh Bishop, Sergio Lorenzo and Jess McPhillips.

Projects and New Opportunities

During the visit, Jalil held meetings with representatives of companies with projects or investments in Catamarca. Among them, he met with Peter Wright, Director of Greenwing, to discuss the lithium initiatives the company is developing in the province and the possibilities for their future advancement.

The Governor also reported meetings with Rio Tinto executives to review the status of the company’s projects in Catamarca. According to information released by the provincial government, the agenda with mining companies “seeks to maintain dialogue on ongoing investments and opportunities for the development of the provincial sector”.

Training and Participation in IMARC

Technical training was another focus of the agenda. According to Jalil, training arrangements were coordinated with Mining Skills Australia and Central Queensland University, in line with the objective of expanding training opportunities related to the mining industry.

The meetings in Australia will continue with the participation of a Catamarca delegation in the International Mining and Resources Conference (IMARC), scheduled for late October in Sydney.

The agenda also includes meetings with representatives of Central Queensland University’s Hydrogen and Renewable Energy Research Centre and Mining Skills Australia, an organisation that develops technical and training programmes for various activities within the mining industry.

In this way, the provincial mission combines the promotion of copper and lithium investment opportunities with the strengthening of institutional relations and the search for training alternatives for workers from Catamarca.
