Tucumán-based refrigerated logistics company Fríos del Norte SRL acquires 53 Super R500 trucks after confirming a 10% fuel savings in real-world operations.

By Panorama Minero

Scania has confirmed the sale of 53 Super R500 units to Fríos del Norte SRL, a company specialized in refrigerated logistics and cargo transportation, as part of its plan to renew its fleet in 2025 and continue its transition toward a more efficient and sustainable business model.

The decision followed a pilot test using a vehicle from Scania’s Demo Fleet, which demonstrated a 10% fuel savings under real operating conditions.

The acquisition includes 6x2 models equipped with scalable semi-trailers and prepared for international transport. The first 23 units have already been delivered through the NOA Regional dealership in San Miguel de Tucumán. Fríos del Norte SRL also utilizes Scania Connected Services, which help optimize performance, plan routes, and maximize operational efficiency.

“Fuel savings were a key factor, but we also value the environmental impact: the Super line helps us reduce emissions, which aligns with our company’s purpose and ongoing efforts in collaboration with Scania,” said Marta Prado, Partner and Commercial Director of Fríos del Norte.

This investment is part of a comprehensive strategy the company is developing to consolidate its leadership in the refrigerated transport segment.

“We are building a model logistics center on a 14-hectare site in Tucumán, with the capacity to store and refrigerate 7,800 merchandise positions under 'Triple A' quality standards,” explained María Eugenia Prado, Partner and Financial Director of Fríos del Norte. She also noted that, “The project will also include an in-house Scania workshop (CWS), with trained staff, original parts, and equipment, allowing us to further improve the operational efficiency and availability of our fleet, which is 100% Scania.” Sebastián Figueroa, CEO of Scania Argentina, highlighted the long-standing partnership: “The Prado family has always been a strategic partner for Scania, and supporting them through this process of adopting cutting-edge technology reinforces our commitment. We encourage clients to embrace the switch to newer technologies,” said Figueroa, and added: “Fleet renewal means greater efficiency, profitability in transportation, and optimized operational costs for customers. That’s why we invite everyone to continue testing our Super Demo Fleet units, the most efficient trucks on the market.”

The European Union Brings Key Financial Delegation to Discuss Investments in Lithium and Copper

The European Union (EU) has identified lithium, copper, cobalt, nickel, gallium, boron, and rare earth elements as critical minerals essential to the energy transition and technological innovation. In this context, it launched a series of initiatives aimed at diversifying its supply sources—primarily to reduce dependence on China—by promoting the extraction, processing, and recycling of these minerals within its own borders.
