Minas Argentinas S.A., the operating company of the Gualcamayo mine, has received approval for the seventh update of its Environmental Impact Report. This marks a significant milestone for the company, as it not only validates all actions carried out during the evaluated period, but more importantly, it initiates the permitting process for the new Deep Carbonates Project (DCP).
The seventh update of the Environmental Impact Report was submitted and approved in accordance with the new regulations established by the Ministry of Mining under Decree 7-2024. The entire process took six months, as stipulated by the regulation. This approval also encompasses the fifth and sixth updates, which were previously submitted by Minas Argentinas to the relevant authority.
The most significant aspect of this approval is the inclusion of the activities required for the implementation of the Deep Carbonates Project (DCP). This project, which is currently progressing through its engineering, technical, and economic feasibility phases, is expected to extend Gualcamayo’s productive life by at least another 20 years.
The original authorization for Gualcamayo to begin operations was granted with the approval of its Environmental Impact Statement back in 2007. As required by regulation, the company has submitted updates every two years, reporting on completed activities and outlining projections for the next operational phase of the mine.
In this seventh update, Minas Argentinas has already begun to include components related to the new mine and the associated work that will need to be carried out.
