At the 14th International Mining Exhibition of Argentina, Arminera 2025, Glencore Argentina welcomed key industry stakeholders, government officials, suppliers, students, and many others interested in learning about the progress of the MARA and El Pachón projects at its booth.
Throughout the three-day event—which attracted more than 75,000 attendees at La Rural exhibition center in Buenos Aires—Glencore participated in several panels alongside strategic industry players. Martín Pérez de Solay, CEO of Glencore Argentina, was a featured speaker in the seminar “Do You Want to Be Part of This Industry?” and in the panel “Why Do Major Companies Invest in Argentina?” During his remarks, he stated: “Mining is a growth engine. The outlook couldn't be better for the country: more copper needs to be produced, Argentina has it, and the world needs it. We support mining and want it to grow—sustainably, inclusively, and in harmony with the environment and communities.”
In addition to its active role in the suppliers' roundtable, Glencore received numerous visitors at its booth. Among the notable attendees were the Governor of Catamarca, Raúl Jalil, along with the province’s Minister of Mining, Marcelo Murúa, and the Swiss Ambassador to Argentina, Hans-Ruedi Bortis, accompanied by Commercial Attaché Alejandro Lentz. They were welcomed by Glencore Argentina’s CEO, Martín Pérez de Solay, and Country Manager, Juan Donicelli. Both executives also took part in the inauguration of the San Juan province booth alongside Governor Marcelo Orrego and his team.
One of the highlights of the second day was the award given to the MARA project, recognized as the winner of the “Biodiversity Management in the Mining Industry” contest organized by the Argentine Chamber of Mining Entrepreneurs (CAEM). In collaboration with Fundación ProYungas—an NGO dedicated to nature conservation—the MARA project received recognition for its native species revegetation program, which aims to ensure a responsible and sustainable mine closure at the Alumbrera site.
Edgar Alderete, a biologist at MARA, emphasized during his presentation: “This recognition reaffirms that sustainability in mining is possible when there is planning, science, and dialogue with the community.” Meanwhile, MARA’s Environmental and Mine Closure Manager, Gabriel López Vazques, added: “The award acknowledges over 20 years of technical, environmental, and community work to restore biodiversity in impacted areas, in line with current regulations, international standards, and the 2030 Agenda.”
Glencore’s participation in Arminera 2025 reinforces its commitment to responsible and transparent mining, supporting local development through the advancement of its copper projects in Catamarca and San Juan.
