The distinction was presented during a ceremony attended by Governor Marcelo Orrego and Minister of Education Silvia Fuentes at the Eloy Camus Auditorium in San Juan's Civic Center. María Eugenia Basualdo, Community Relations Manager at Glencore Pachón, accepted the recognition on behalf of the company.
The Comprendo y Aprendo program is designed to strengthen literacy during the early years of schooling, focusing on four- and five-year-old kindergarten students and children in the first three grades of primary education.
The initiative combines on-the-ground educational support, the provision of teaching materials and teacher training delivered by specialists from CONICET, Argentina's National Scientific and Technical Research Council. According to the provincial government, after three years of implementation the program has shown improvements in literacy levels and will continue expanding its reach throughout 2026.
"This year, the initiative is expected to reach nearly 800 educational institutions, benefiting more than 3,600 teachers and 66,000 students across the province," provincial authorities said in a statement.
Glencore Pachón also noted that its support for the program forms part of its broader community engagement strategy in San Juan. Among the initiatives the company is carrying out during 2026 are the expansion of kindergarten classrooms at Juan Pedro Esnaola School in Barreal, as well as the implementation of a hydroponic gardening program for fifth-grade students in schools located in Barreal, Villa de Calingasta and Tamberías.
