This initiative is moving forward in coordination with the National University of Catamarca (UNCA), within the framework of the transfer process and the new restructuring of Yacimientos Mineros de Agua de Dionisio (YMAD), a step that will grant the province majority control over the management of the state-owned mining company, together with the National University of Tucumán (UNT).

Governor Raúl Jalil held a working meeting with the Rector of the National University of Catamarca (UNCA), Oscar Arellano, with the aim of analyzing the institutional, academic, and scientific impact of YMAD’s new structure, and advancing initiatives to strengthen the link between mining activity and the provincial university system.
During the meeting, the authorities discussed the creation of a mining research laboratory, an initiative expressly included in the law establishing YMAD (Law No. 14,771), Chapter 10, subsection L. This legal framework provides for the development of scientific and technical capabilities to support the rational exploitation of mineral resources.
The project includes the construction of the laboratory within the Scientific and Technological Center, equipped for mining and metallurgical research, materials analysis, process studies, quality control, and the development of applied technologies, positioning it as a key hub for productive innovation.
From an academic perspective, the initiative is considered strategic for strengthening the training of specialized human resources, expanding research lines, and creating professional training opportunities linked to modern mining, with a direct impact on UNCA students, faculty, and researchers.
In addition, the laboratory aims to consolidate a model of coordination between mining, science, and technology, promoting the generation of applied knowledge, technology transfer, and local added value, in line with current demands of the mining sector and the challenges of sustainability and competitiveness.
The authorities emphasized that YMAD’s new structure opens an unprecedented opportunity for Catamarca to play a more direct role in the company’s strategic decisions, aligning mining management with public policies focused on territorial development, innovation, and technical training.
Finally, it was agreed to deepen joint efforts between the provincial government and UNCA to enhance institutional benefits, expand research projects, strengthen the scientific–productive ecosystem, and consolidate a mining governance framework that integrates the State, the university, and the productive sector, with a long-term vision for Catamarca’s economic and social development.
