What is the reason for your presence here in San Juan with a delegation at the Second Argentina Cobre Conference?
At the Polish Embassy, we work on developing ties between our two countries across many different areas. We see that the relationship is already very strong, with a lot of cooperation, trust, and also a shared history between Poland and Argentina. But especially in recent years, what has become very important to us is the commercial relationship between our countries.
We are witnessing growing interest from Polish investors and various companies. Here in San Juan, we are joined by KGHM, perhaps the most important Polish company in the mining sector. For us, this signals strong potential for increased cooperation.
As a representative of Poland in Argentina, it is very important for me to get to know the provinces and their governments. This is also important for our companies: when we talk about mining, it is crucial for KGHM to be here, to take advantage of the conversations we will have over these two days, to build new connections, and to exchange experiences.
Beyond mining, what are your expectations regarding the exchange between Argentina and Poland?
We hope to see exchange in areas such as technology, where we are specialists. In Argentina, we also observe the importance of collaboration between universities, particularly technical ones, which we believe will be a very important step for the future.
Overall, we see great potential, and we hope it can be realized to benefit both countries.
Poland’s Mining Development in Argentina
Marcelo Villa, head of the Polish Business Agency in Argentina, discusses the growth of Poland’s mining presence in the country:
-
“In recent years, we have been working on promoting the export of technologies, equipment, supplies, machinery, and know-how specifically for Argentine mining.”
-
“Starting this year, and with this edition of the conference, the difference lies in opening the doors of the Argentine market to mining operators, such as KGHM.”
-
“This is a further step — trying to open channels of exchange that allow access to mining activities. Of course, it also means increasing the presence of Polish goods exported to the sector, but going one step further — becoming part of the production itself.”
