The Vicuña mining project, located in the province of San Juan, has begun incorporating a fleet of 28 trucks that will be used for its Early Works program, a phase focused on developing key infrastructure for the future operation.

The first units were delivered by Scania Argentina and will support activities related to the construction of the plant area and the improvement of roads within the project.
The fleet will consist of 24 Scania G550 B8x4 Super XT Heavy Tipper trucks, each with a 40-tonne payload capacity, and four water tanker units dedicated to road watering and dust suppression.
According to Scania, the vehicles were specifically configured to operate in high-altitude mining environments. Among the features incorporated are snow-removal systems, designed to maintain operational continuity during adverse weather conditions.
The units are also equipped with the Scania Super powertrain platform, aimed at improving fuel efficiency, as well as advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) designed to enhance safety standards in demanding operating environments.
The fleet supply forms part of a comprehensive support scheme that also includes permanent technical assistance within the project. To that end, a Customer Workshop Services (CWS) program will be implemented, featuring on-site workshops, availability of critical spare parts, and dedicated technical personnel responsible for maintenance and support activities.
“In mining, our goal is to support customers with solutions that integrate products, services, and technical expertise from the earliest stages of each project. The delivery of these units for Vicuña reflects a long-term collaboration that allowed us to design a configuration tailored specifically to its operation, with a focus on safety, efficiency, and availability,” said Juan Pablo Cagnola, Mining and Off-Road Area Manager at Scania Argentina.
At the same time, the company continues expanding its presence in the Cuyo region. In San Juan, Scania is moving forward with the modernization and expansion of its local dealership through a US$2.3 million investment, aimed at increasing operational capacity and incorporating new service technologies.
